About Rama

Chapter 15 - The Visit

It was a long hard day.  As I punched out my time card, I was really exhausted.

I was working at the Fleetwood Motor Home Manufacturing Plant in Riverside.  This day seemed harder than most.  It had been blistering hot.  In addition, we had worked on the larger coaches.  It seemed that we worked twice as hard on days like this.

It must have been close to a hundred degrees as I drove home.  I was so tired that my mind seemed numb.

There was a student meeting tonight.  Only enough time to shower, get dressed and hit the traffic into Beverly Hills where the student meetings were being held.  I was so weary that the thought occurred that I needed to rest.  It might be dangerous to drive after such a hard day.  Rama would understand that...

"Bullshit!" I shouted in the car.  I was determined not to let my ego keep me from a meditation with my Teacher!  Suddenly the weight lifted and I felt energized.

As I pulled up in front of my brother's home (I was living with him at the time), I saw my parents' car.  They had come out for a surprise visit from New Mexico!

I walked into the house and was greeted by these wonderful people that I truly loved.  Mom had fried up some chicken and set the table with gravy, mashed potatoes, green beans and hot rolls!  My favorite meal!  This was awful!  The temptation was great to push through my meat-eating aversion.

I hugged my parents, got a change of clothes and showered.  I informed them that I had an important meeting that I had to attend and that they should rest.  I assured them that we would visit in the morning.  I could see the look of disappointment cross over my parents faces as I grabbed a hot roll and left.

It was the most amazing student meeting I had attended in months!  I attained states of awareness that I could never have imagined!  I was so glad that I had pushed through circumstances and my own resistance to make the meeting.

The next morning I did the family thing.  Mom and Dad seemed okay with my not staying home the night before.  I was glad that they took it that way.  As I said, they are extraordinary and I really love them.

This also provided me with an experience in seeing my priorities at the time.  It was one of the high points in my self-discovery process.
