Chapter 6 - Shawn's Boyfriend

On the second night of meditation, I arranged to carpool with Shawn and her boyfriend.  Shawn had been dating this psychic, and she was so excited from her first night with Atmananda that she insisted that he come along. 

They picked me up in his car and I felt a little apprehensive about going with them.  I almost drove my own car, but Shawn and her boyfriend soon talked me out of it. 

We arrived, registered and entered as the night before.  Once again the energy went through the roof and the room started to turn gold! 

I found out that the phenomenon of experiencing the room turning gold happens when Enlightenment is made manifest in the room.  It is usually the result of a teacher going into a state of "Samadhi."  The teacher dissolves into the Light of Eternity and there is nothing left but the doorway that he has gone through.  This doorway then fills the room with eternal light.

I noticed that Shawn's boyfriend was becoming more and more agitated as the meditation progressed. 

Finally the meditation ended and Atmananda asked if there were any questions.  Someone asked about women and Enlightenment. 

As Atmananda started to speak, Shawn's boyfriend grabbed her arm and said, "I've seen enough!  This guy is a fake!  Let's go!"

I started to say that I wanted to stay, but he was already dragging her toward the exit.

Having no way home, I too stood up and left.  As we walked out, I heard Atmananda say, "Now there is a good example of why some women don't attain Enlightenment!" 

We left among the giggles and scrutiny and scorn of over fourteen hundred people.

As we rode through Hollywood to my apartment, I quietly sat in the back and endured Shawn's boyfriend going through all kinds of rationalizations and ego rebellion.  I was disgusted at his constant ranting and raving as he angrily trashed Atmananda.

I resolved that I would not place myself in this predicament again.  I felt terrible at having to leave the meditation early because of this jerk.  I felt cheated and embarrassed by the rude display of ego by this man who obviously lacked humility.
